Union Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda presented his maiden Railway Budget in Parliament on 8th July 2014. The focus is on infrastructure and he announced 58 new trains including 5 new Jansadharans, 5 premium trains, 6 AC express, 27 express trains, 8 passenger trains, 2 MEMU trains and 5 DEMUs.
Tatkal is an Indian Railways scheme for reserving a ticket at very short notice. These tickets can be booked over counter and on the internet.The tatkal charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% of basic fare for second class and 30% of basic fare for all other classes subject to a minimum and maximum.
